Bobble Dream Hat for Newborns

Size

Suitable for newborns from 0-1 month old.

Circumference: approx. 30cm. Length: approx. 11cm down to where the earflaps begin.

Tools/Materials

• Yarn: Infinity Hearts Baby Merino
• Knitting Needles: 40cm 3mm circular needles and 3mm double pointed needles.

Yarn consumption

50 grams

Instructions

Cast on 76 stitches on 40cm 3mm circular needles. Knit back and forth until you have 3 ridges. Place a stitch marker at the start when you begin working in the round.

Make sure the work does not tangle in the beginning. Start on the bobble pattern.

Bobble pattern:

Round 1-5: Knit stocking stitches

Round 6: K3 *count 5 stitches down and knit this stitch, slip the stitch, K3* continue this for the rest of the round.

Round 7-11: Knit stocking stitches

Round 12: K1 *count 5 stitches down and knit this stitch, slip the stitch, K3* continue this for the rest of the round.

Work bobble pattern 9 times. The hat is now approx. 9cm. from the ridge edge.

Finishing the bobble pattern

After picking up the 9th bobble stitch you knit one round, while also changing to the 3mm double-pointed needles.

You should now have 19 stitches on each row.

Round 1: Knit the first 18 stitches K2tog, and then K1. Repeat this for the 3 other rows to the end of the round.

Round 2: Knit all rows to the end of the round.

Round 3: K1, K2tog to the end of the round on all rows.

Round 4: Knit all rows to the end of the round.

Round 5: K2tog for the whole round until you have 1 s left, and K1.

Round 6: K1, K2tog to the end of the round.

Use a needle and bring the strand through the working stitches. Tighten the strand and fasten it on the inside of the hat.

Earflaps

Sew the start together and finish off the ridges. It will be the back of the hat.

Use two 3mm double-pointed needles. Pick up 18 stitches from the right side for each earflap. You are making an earflap on each side with 14 stitches between them on the back middle of the hat.

Work 3 rows of stocking stitch (Knit the right side, purl the wrong side).

From now on, you cast off on each side every time you are working on the right side.

Finishing the earflaps

When you are on the right side, you knit the first stitch, S1, K1 and pass the slipped stitch over.

Work until 3 stitches remain. K2tog and finish with K1.

Repeat these cast-offs until 4 stitches remain.

Make a string by working these 4 stitches. Slide the stitches over the needle to the right and knit the stitches again.

Repeat until the string measures approx. 21cm.
