The body
Start with colour 21 dark Christmas red
Start by making 6 dc in a magic ring
- Inc x 6 (12)
- 1 dc, inc x 6 (18)
- 2 dc, inc x 6 (24)
- 3 dc, inc x 6 (30)
- 4 dc, inc x 6 (36)
- 5 dc, inc x 6 (42)
- Make 5 rounds of 42 dc, change to black on the last stitch.
For the next round, you only crochet in the back loop, and afterwards, you do both again.
- 5 dc, dec x 6 (36)
- 4 dc, dec x 6 (30)
- 3 dc, dec x 6 (24)
- 2 dc, dec x 6 (18)
- 1 dc, dec x 6 (12)
Stuff the body with fibrefill
- Dec x 6 (6)
- Weave the last 6 stitches together and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
You use this strand to divide the body in two by the wings of the ladybug.
Bring the crochet hook through the middle of the magic ring, around the yarn and back down again. This way you are fastening the dividing strand to the body. Weave in the end.
The Head
Start by making 6 dc in a magic ring.
- Inc x 6 (12)
- 1 dc, inc x 6 (18)
- 2, dc, inc x 6 (24)
- Crochet 3 rounds of 24 dc
Crochet a slip stitch, cut the yarn, but leave a long tail for sewing the head onto the body.
Sew the head onto the body. Add filling to the head before you finish sewing.
Weave in the ends.
Dots
You make 7 dots.
Make 6 dc in a magic ring
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing on the dots.
You now embroider the eyes on your ladybug. Cut a long strand from the yarn in the off-white colour.
Once you have embroidered the eyes, you weave in the ends.
