How to iron bead creations

Working with beads and patterns is a wonderful activity that both children and adults can enjoy. Bead crafts are definitely not just an activity that only the smallest members of the household will find entertaining.

Adults of all ages can benefit from working with beads, which can be a means of mental de-stressing and physical relaxation.

When you or your children have spent a long time concentrating on making beautiful bead patterns, you will likely want to save the work.

You do this by ironing it.

What you’ll need for ironing bead creations

You will need a regular household iron, ironing paper or parchment paper and a solid surface (such as an ironing board) to solidify the bead design. It is best to have an adult in charge of the ironing, as the bead's designs must be ironed at high temperatures. The cool thing about the beads is that they soften and melt together when exposed to high heat.

The most important thing is that you remember to use different temperatures depending on the sizes of the beads.

The popular HAMA beads should be ironed at different temperatures.

The smallest type of beads (MINI versions) must be ironed at temperatures equivalent to the temperatures you use for ironing wool. MIDI versions must be ironed at temperatures equivalent to temperatures for ironing cotton, and the largest beads (MAXI) must be ironed at temperatures equivalent to temperatures for ironing linen.

Here's how you iron your bead creations

Make sure the iron is heated up to the correct temperature before you start. If you use too much heat, you risk melting the beads together too much and squashing the bead design.

Place a piece of ironing paper or parchment paper on top of the beads on the pegboard. The paper ensures that the beads do not stick to the hot iron as they begin to melt.

Ironi the beads using soft and round motions. It's easiest when the design is small enough so that the iron covers it entirely. When ironing larger creations, make sure that the entire creation receives the same amount of heat.

Leave the paper on when the beads have been fused together. The paper must only be carefully removed once the entire bead creation has cooled off.
